MODEL AFRICAN UNION e.V. CONFERENCE 2026
The GEWE Strategy represents both a challenge and an opportunity. Achieving gender
equality is a practical necessity for the continent’s development. It is necessary to
confront structural barriers that hinder women from equality at household, community
and institutional levels. BAYMAU26 Conference provides a space to transform
commitments into tangible results, reaffirm partnerships and position women and
girls as full and equal participants in Africa’s journey toward the vision of Agenda
2063.
The conference will include simulations of AU Specialised Technical Committees (STCs)
on Gender and Women’s Empowerment, Defence, Safety and Security, and Public
Service, Local Government, Urban Development and Decentralisation, as well as the
African Union and the Pan-African Parliament. We aim to raise awareness on gender
policies and implementations, and to provide evidence-based guidance for narrowing
gender gaps. The expected outcomes of the conference include a clear framework of
actionable steps to accelerate delivery of the GEWE Strategy.
The above will be possible by following the GEWE Strategy, which is organized around
four thematic pillars that frame the discussion:
Maximizing opportunities, outcomes and E-TECH dividends: highlighting the
importance of free and compulsory education for girls, women’s economic
empowerment and financial inclusion
Dignity, security and resilience: focuses on securing women’s health and
reproductive rights, ending gender-based violence and harmful traditional
practices. Also aims to ensure women’s participation in peace and security
processes.
Effective laws, policies, and institutions: calls for the full implementation of the
Maputo Protocol (2003), harmonization of national laws with AU commitments.
Leadership, voice, and visibility: emphasizes equal representation in decision-
making, strengthening women’s agency at community and public levels
Sincerely,
MAU Team
