The association Model African Union Bayreuth e.V. organizes an annual several days lasting conference with the purpose to simulate the African Union. During the conference the member states of the AU are represented by participants who function as delegates of the different states. In advance of the conference we seek for information on the challenges of the AU and arrange it. Participants are able to engage in politics during the conference: They discuss about various previously selected topics in different committees resembling the AU, train their negotiation skills, pass through the different processes of political decision making and acquire a lot of other valuable competences. Participants gain insight into different topics of the African Union, for instance:
- Sustainable development
- Governance
- Rule of law
- Democratization
- Cultural diversity
After the committees gained their resolutions through official negotiations as well as private conversations between the experts for the different states, while everyone hopes that their own positions take an influential part, the resolutions are presented to the General Assembly in order to vote. If the plenum is pleased with a resolution it is adopted and could even take influence on real politics. Proposals originating from MUNs and MAUs have already been realized in concrete projects. Apart from the conferences itself another purpose of participating is to meet other committed people who are interested in Africa and to share ideas. Because of that we offer various cultural activities that complement the simulation of the AU. The delegates are accommodated together and food as well as coffee is provided during the conference.
