Movie night at IWALEWAHAUS

In October 2017 our fellow member Fiona organized a movie night around the inspiring documentary “Les Sauteurs Those Who Jump”, including an interview with the Protagonist Abou Bakar Sidibé in the Iwalewa house in Bayreuth. With over 100 interested visitors the room was filled when the movie, filmed by Abou Bakar Sidibé from Mali, who is also the protagonist and the co-director at the same time, started. Watching the movie about him filming the daily life of the people living in camps in the forest of Morocco near the border to Mellila, preparing their next trial to cross the border to Europe, made the movie very personal and sometimes emotional. There were moments of hope, fear and also of joy, when the audience had to laugh, which was contrasted by the inhumane perspective of the Spanish border control cameras also shown in the movie. To have a closer look at our event accompanied by West-African Kora music played by Ablaye Kouyaté, watch our video on youtube:

This event was able to take place thanks to the organization by Model African Union e.V. in cooperation with Bunt Statt Braun e.V., the project “Hand in Hand” of the city and district of Bayreuth and financially supported by the “Bundesprogramm Demokratie leben! durch das Bundesministerium für Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend”. Again, we warmly want to thank Abou Bakar Sidibé for participating in the evening and answering questions out of the audience as well as Ablaye Kouyaté for his fabulous Kora music.
